Wigs (1) is an avant-garde visual artist whose work explores the interplay between identity, gender, and popular culture through bold, multidisciplinary approaches. Born in 1990 and raised in Chicago, Wigs (1) developed a fascination with costume, transformation, and the blurring of boundaries from an early age. Their practice encompasses painting, sculpture, performance, and digital media, often incorporating synthetic hair, found materials, and vibrant color palettes to challenge viewers’ preconceptions and evoke a sense of playful subversion.

Since earning a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2012, Wigs (1) has exhibited across major galleries in the United States and Europe, garnering critical acclaim for immersive installations and participatory events that invite audiences to reconsider notions of authenticity and self-expression. Fiercely committed to community engagement, Wigs (1) frequently collaborates with local queer and transgender collectives, using art as a platform for advocacy and storytelling. Their work has been featured in prominent publications and is held in several private and public collections.
