Vijay Chatterjee

Vijay Chatterjee is a contemporary visual artist whose dynamic practice bridges traditional Indian aesthetics with modern conceptual explorations. Born in Kolkata in 1982, Chatterjee grew up surrounded by the rich textures of Bengal’s artisanal heritage, which deeply influenced his early fascination with storytelling through visual form. He pursued formal training at the Government College of Art & Craft in Kolkata, where he developed a nuanced understanding of painting, sculpture, and mixed media.

Chatterjee’s work is marked by vivid color palettes, intricate layering, and a deft interplay between figuration and abstraction, often invoking themes related to memory, migration, and the evolving narratives of urban life. Over the past decade, he has exhibited widely across India, Europe, and North America, garnering critical acclaim for solo exhibitions such as "Echoes of the Everyday" and "Urban Palimpsests." Residing in Mumbai, Chatterjee continues to push the boundaries of his medium, incorporating found objects and digital manipulation into his practice, and has contributed to numerous public art projects and artist residency programs.
