Substance is the moniker of Berlin-based producer and DJ Peter Kuschnereit, a seminal figure in the evolution of German techno and dub-infused electronic music. Emerging from the vibrant scene of early 1990s Berlin, Kuschnereit became closely associated with the legendary Hard Wax record store, where he cultivated his deep knowledge and distinctive taste in techno, house, and experimental sounds. As Substance, he developed a sound marked by cavernous dub textures, propulsive rhythms, and meticulous production, drawing from his deep connection to the Basic Channel and Chain Reaction collectives.
