Shunt Voltage

Shunt Voltage is an experimental electronic music project that fuses modular synthesis, field recordings, and distorted digital textures to craft immersive soundscapes. Emerging from the underground DIY scene in Detroit, Shunt Voltage was founded in 2017 by audio engineer and producer Morgan Hess, whose background in both industrial design and electronic composition shapes the project’s unique blend of abrasive rhythms and atmospheric layering. Rejecting traditional structures, Hess explores sonic decay, modular randomness, and voltage manipulation to deconstruct the boundaries of genre, resulting in tracks that oscillate between industrial techno, noise, and ambient drone.

Shunt Voltage’s live performances are known for their audiovisual intensity and improvised hardware manipulations, pushing the limits of glitch, feedback, and real-time signal disruption. With releases on boutique labels such as Ferrite Loop and Signal Dispersal, the project has garnered a cult following among fans of experimental electronica, praised for its relentless innovation and ability to evoke both chaos and beauty within a single composition.
