Shemm

Shemm is a visionary multidisciplinary artist whose work spans painting, installation, and digital media. Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Shemm developed an early fascination with the bold colors and vibrant patterns present in local street art and textiles. After receiving formal training at the Yaba College of Technology, Shemm began to intertwine elements of traditional African aesthetics with contemporary forms, exploring themes of identity, migration, and cultural memory.

Their work is characterized by layered textures, dynamic compositions, and an innovative approach to found materials. Over the past decade, Shemm has exhibited in solo and group shows across Africa, Europe, and North America, earning critical acclaim for a practice that bridges the global and the personal. Deeply committed to community engagement, Shemm also facilitates art workshops in underserved communities, using creativity as a tool for empowerment and dialogue.
