SEDENTARY

SEDENTARY is an experimental multi-disciplinary duo whose work explores the intersections of sound, space, and social ritual. Emerging from the DIY scenes of the Pacific Northwest in 2018, they have built a reputation for immersive installations and live performances that blur the boundaries between audience and environment. Their practice is deeply collaborative, drawing equally from field recordings, found objects, kinetic sculpture, and participatory performance art to shape sensory experiences that challenge habitual notions of presence and participation.

SEDENTARY’s projects often address the poetics of stillness, repetition, and routine, probing how the mundane can become transformative through shared attention. Their work has been exhibited at artist-run spaces, galleries, and alternative venues across North America and Europe, and their ongoing research is fueled by residencies, workshops, and community engagement initiatives. Adopting no fixed medium, SEDENTARY approaches each project as an evolving inquiry into how physical and metaphorical seats of inertia can give rise to new possibilities for listening, gathering, and belonging.
