Romare

Romare, born Archie Fairhurst, is a British electronic music producer and DJ known for blending elements of jazz, blues, funk, and African rhythms into his distinctive sound. Raised in the UK, Romare took his stage name from the influential American artist Romare Bearden, whose collage technique and exploration of Black culture served as inspiration for Fairhurst’s own approach to sampling and composition. Romare’s music career began to flourish in the early 2010s when he released his debut EPs on London’s Black Acre label.

These early works garnered critical acclaim for their innovative use of found sounds, field recordings, and samples from American jazz, blues, and soul, masterfully woven into modern electronic frameworks. This unique approach set Romare apart in the UK’s electronic music scene. In 2015, Romare released his debut full-length album, "Projections," on Ninja Tune, further establishing his reputation for seamless genre-blending and collage-like production.

"Projections" received widespread praise for its soulful, groove-heavy tracks that nodded to both dancefloor culture and historical Black music traditions. He followed this success with subsequent albums, including "Love Songs: Part Two" (2016) and "Home" (2020), each exploring new sonic territories while maintaining his signature sampling techniques and textured production style. Romare’s DJ sets are celebrated for their ability to traverse multiple genres and eras, mixing everything from rare groove classics to contemporary house and techno.

He has performed internationally at festivals and clubs, earning a dedicated following among fans of eclectic, sample-driven electronica. Through his boundary-pushing sound and nods to musical heritage, Romare continues to innovate as one of the UK’s most respected artists in contemporary electronic music.
