Perila is the artistic moniker of Russian-born, Berlin-based electronic musician and sound artist Alexandra Zakharenko. Known for her explorations of immersive, atmospheric soundscapes that blur the boundaries between ambient, field recording, and experimental music, Perila has carved a unique niche within the electronic music scene since her emergence in the mid-2010s. Zakharenko’s deeply textured works thrive on subtlety and introspection, drawing inspiration from everyday experiences, emotional states, and the sensual nature of sound.
As a co-founder of the Berlin collective radio.syg.ma, she has been influential in connecting and nurturing the city’s experimental music community.
Perila’s signature sound is marked by its hazy intimacy – weaving together whispered vocals, tactile percussion, and environmental recordings into enveloping compositions. In 2021, she released her critically acclaimed debut album, "How Much Time it is Between You and Me?" on Smalltown Supersound, further establishing her reputation as one of the most inventive and evocative artists in contemporary electronic music.
Through both her recordings and live performances, Perila continues to push the boundaries of ambient and experimental music, creating dreamlike sonic environments that invite deep listening and quiet reflection.
