NAKAMA

NAKAMA is a multidisciplinary artist collective formed in 2018, known for their immersive projects that explore the intersection of identity, community, and cultural memory. Drawing on diverse backgrounds in visual art, sound design, and performance, the members of NAKAMA collaborate to create site-specific installations, interactive media, and participatory events that challenge traditional boundaries between artist and audience. Their work often incorporates found materials, archival fragments, and experimental technology to evoke a sense of shared experience and collective storytelling.

NAKAMA has exhibited in galleries and alternative spaces internationally, from Tokyo and Berlin to New York and Los Angeles, and their projects have been featured in major contemporary art publications. With a name that means “companion” or “ally” in Japanese, NAKAMA’s practice centers slow collaboration, radical empathy, and the ongoing pursuit of new ways to imagine belonging.
