Martina Peneva

Martina Peneva is a contemporary visual artist from North Macedonia whose distinctive practice blends traditional techniques with experimental processes to explore themes of memory, identity, and cultural transformation. Born in Skopje, Peneva studied fine arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts in her home city, where she quickly gained recognition for her evocative use of texture and color. Her work often draws from the region’s tumultuous history, incorporating found objects, archival imagery, and mixed-media collage to construct layered narratives that challenge perceptions of collective and personal memory.

Peneva has exhibited widely in North Macedonia and throughout the Balkans, with her installations and paintings featured in solo and group exhibitions at prominent galleries and cultural institutions. She is committed to fostering dialogue and exchange between artists across the region, frequently collaborating on interdisciplinary projects and community-based workshops. Peneva’s art is celebrated for its emotional resonance and its ability to bridge the local with the universal, marking her as a leading voice in the new wave of Macedonian contemporary art.
