Identical twin brothers Bandile and Banele Mbere, better known as Major League Djz, were born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. The duo first made their mark in the South African music industry by blending genres like hip-hop, kwaito, and house, eventually propelling the uniquely local Amapiano sound to national and international prominence. The twins' musical journey began at a young age, influenced by the rich musical legacy within their family and Johannesburg’s vibrant nightlife scene.
Major League Djz started out hosting some of the city’s most anticipated social events and club nights, quickly building a name for their energetic sets and crowd control skills. As producers and performers, they made their official debut with the single “The Bizness” in 2014 and gained further recognition with popular tracks such as “Slyza Tsotsi” and “Do Better” featuring top South African artists. In 2020 and 2021, Major League Djz became global ambassadors for the Amapiano genre, performing at international stages including the UK, the US, and Europe.
Their live mix series “Amapiano Balcony Mix Africa” went viral and amassed millions of views on YouTube, cementing their role in shaping Amapiano’s global narrative. By consistently pushing creative boundaries, working with high-profile collaborators, and fusing Afrobeat, jazz, and house influences, Major League Djz have positioned themselves as innovators and tastemakers within Africa's evolving dance music culture.
