JOSEF KURTZ

Josef Kurtz is a contemporary visual artist known for his evocative exploration of memory, urban landscapes, and the interplay between abstraction and realism. Born in Vienna in 1982, Kurtz studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, where he developed a distinctive style that weaves together elements of architectural geometry, textured surfaces, and a nuanced color palette. Drawing inspiration from both the tumultuous history of Central Europe and the subtleties of everyday life, his work often engages with themes of impermanence, dislocation, and personal narrative.

Since his debut solo exhibition in 2008, Kurtz has exhibited widely across Europe and North America, with works held in numerous public and private collections. In addition to painting, he incorporates sculpture and found objects into his practice, expanding the conceptual boundaries of his work. Kurtz currently lives and works between Vienna and Berlin, continuously pushing the dialogue between structure and spontaneity in contemporary art.
