Johana Jost

Johana Jost is a contemporary visual artist whose multidisciplinary practice explores the delicate intersections of memory, identity, and the natural world. Born in 1988 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Jost’s early fascination with storytelling and visual symbolism was nurtured by the city’s vibrant cultural landscape. She received her BFA from the Universidad Nacional de las Artes before relocating to Berlin, where she completed her MFA at the Universität der Künste and established her studio practice.

Jost’s work—often manifesting through painting, installation, and lens-based media—reflects a nuanced consideration of personal and collective transformation, drawing from her ancestral roots and transnational experiences. Her evocative compositions are characterized by layered imagery, muted palettes, and a persistent sense of quiet contemplation, inviting viewers to consider the lingering echoes of place and time. Jost’s art has been exhibited widely in Europe and South America, with solo and group exhibitions at notable institutions such as the Berlinische Galerie, Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires, and the Contemporary Art Center Vilnius.

She has been the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program Fellowship and was shortlisted for the Future Generation Art Prize in 2023. Johana currently lives and works between Berlin and Buenos Aires, where she continues to investigate the materiality of memory through her immersive visual narratives.
