Joe Tagessian

Joe Tagessian is a multidisciplinary artist known for his evocative explorations of memory, place, and personal narrative. Born in 1987 in Los Angeles, California, Tagessian developed an early fascination with storytelling and visual culture, which deeply informs his practice today. Drawing from his Armenian heritage and the complex histories of diaspora, his work weaves together painting, installation, found objects, and text to create immersive environments that invite viewers to reflect on themes of displacement, nostalgia, and resilience.

Tagessian's art has been exhibited in galleries across the United States and internationally, earning recognition for its poignant blend of intimacy and universality. Tagessian holds an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts and has participated in numerous residencies, including the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture. In addition to his studio practice, he is committed to arts education and community engagement, frequently leading workshops and collaborative projects that amplify underrepresented voices.
