Jacky Sommer is a contemporary visual artist whose work explores the intersection of memory, landscape, and human experience. Born in 1987 in Portland, Oregon, Sommer grew up surrounded by the lush Pacific Northwest scenery, an influence that permeates much of their imagery. After earning a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2010, Sommer developed a multidimensional practice grounded in painting, mixed-media collage, and found-object installations.
Their art often features layered textures and subtle color gradients, evoking emotional states and personal histories. Sommer’s critically acclaimed solo exhibitions in cities such as New York, Chicago, and Berlin have earned recognition for their deft combination of vulnerability and technical mastery. Currently based in Brooklyn, Sommer continues to push the boundaries of materiality and narrative, drawing from daily observations, archival materials, and the natural world to create immersive visual experiences.
