Hortense de Beauharnais (1783–1837) was a French artist and noblewoman, renowned both as the Queen consort of Holland and for her significant contributions to the arts during the Napoleonic era. Born the daughter of Joséphine de Beauharnais and later the stepdaughter of Napoleon Bonaparte, she was raised in a sophisticated environment that nurtured her intellectual and creative pursuits. Hortense developed exceptional talent in both music and visual arts, excelling in watercolor painting and drawing, and counted herself among the accomplished amateur artists of her time.
