Hewan Aman is an Ethiopian multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the intersections of identity, memory, and cultural heritage through a contemporary lens. Drawing inspiration from her upbringing in Addis Ababa, Aman incorporates traditional Ethiopian motifs, languages, and storytelling practices into her vivid paintings, installations, and mixed-media pieces. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Addis Ababa University and has exhibited her work in a number of group and solo shows across Africa, Europe, and North America.
Aman's practice is deeply informed by both personal narratives and broader social issues, including the complexities of migration and the resilience of women in her community. Her distinctive visual language, which blends figuration with abstraction, invites viewers to reflect on their own sense of belonging and to question established narratives. In addition to her studio work, Aman is an active participant in arts education initiatives, mentoring emerging artists and advocating for greater representation of African voices in the global art scene.
