Harry Mcnestry is a contemporary visual artist whose work explores the intersection of memory, landscape, and abstraction. Born in 1988 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Mcnestry developed a fascination with the natural world at a young age, drawing inspiration from the shifting coastlines and rugged terrain of his childhood home. After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 2010, he pursued further studies in mixed media at Concordia University in Montreal.
Mcnestry’s practice is characterized by a distinctive use of layered textures, muted palettes, and found materials, resulting in paintings and installations that evoke both a sense of place and the ephemeral nature of lived experience. His work has been exhibited across Canada and internationally, including solo exhibitions at the Owens Art Gallery and group shows in Berlin and London. Critically acclaimed for his evocative use of color and innovative approach to materiality, Mcnestry continues to push the boundaries of contemporary painting from his studio in Toronto, where he also mentors emerging artists and engages in community arts initiatives.
