Hagel is an enigmatic contemporary artist whose multidisciplinary work bridges the boundaries between visual art, sound, and conceptual performance. Born in the early 1990s and currently based in Berlin, Hagel draws inspiration from Eastern European landscapes, post-industrial architecture, and the tensions between memory and erasure. Their installations often combine found objects, manipulated photographs, and immersive soundscapes to evoke a sense of unease and poetic ambiguity.
Hagel first gained international recognition following a solo exhibition at KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin in 2017, shortly after completing a master’s degree in Fine Art from Universität der Künste. Since then, Hagel’s evolving practice has been featured in group exhibitions across Europe, including at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Warsaw. Their critical engagement with themes of displacement and collective trauma resonates in both public commissions and more intimate gallery settings.
Hagel’s process is deeply research-based, often involving collaborations with archivists, musicians, and writers. Their work has been collected by several public and private institutions and is recognized for its haunting aesthetic, intellectual rigor, and emotional depth.
