GLIA is a multidisciplinary artist duo comprised of Grace Lee and Ian Alvarez, whose collaborative practice explores the intersections between biology, memory, and digital technology. Since forming GLIA in 2019, the pair have developed an expansive body of work spanning generative animation, immersive installation, and sculpture, often drawing inspiration from the microscopic world and neural architectures. Their art blurs boundaries between the organic and the synthetic, weaving together data-driven visuals and hand-crafted elements to evoke sensations of growth, flux, and interconnectedness.
GLIA's projects have been exhibited internationally at venues such as New Art City, the Science Gallery, and Ars Electronica, and they have participated in residencies at interdisciplinary centers for art and science. Through a fusion of research-based inquiry and experimental processes, GLIA invites viewers to reflect on the porous nature of the body, the intricacies of perception, and the profound links connecting living systems in an era increasingly defined by technological mediation.
