Giorgio Moroder

Giorgio Moroder was born on April 26, 1940, in Ortisei, Italy. He emerged as a pioneering force in electronic music in the 1970s, moving to Berlin and then Munich, where he became a central figure in the burgeoning disco scene. Moroder’s groundbreaking collaborations with Donna Summer—including hits like “I Feel Love,” “Love to Love You Baby,” and “Last Dance”—ushered in a new era of synthesizer-driven dance music that would later shape pop, techno, and house genres.

His innovative use of electronics and sequencers influenced an entire generation of artists, earning him a reputation as “the Father of Disco.” Moroder won his first Academy Award for Best Original Score with the film *Midnight Express* (1978), and later had further success composing and producing iconic tracks for movies such as "Flashdance… What a Feeling," "Take My Breath Away" from *Top Gun*, and the theme for *Scarface*. He is a three-time Oscar winner and multiple Grammy Award recipient.

Moroder’s collaborations have included work with David Bowie, Blondie, Barbra Streisand, and Daft Punk. After a period of semi-retirement, he returned to performing and producing in the 2010s, notably featuring on Daft Punk’s Grammy-winning album *Random Access Memories*. His work has been sampled and celebrated by artists across genres, and his influence remains central to the evolution of electronic and dance music.
