Elysia Crampton is an American artist, composer, and producer whose work spans experimental music, sonic collage, and performance art. Born in California, Crampton is of Bolivian descent and is known for her deeply personal and political approach to sound, weaving elements of Andean traditions, electronic music, cumbia, and field recordings into richly layered compositions. Emerging in the early 2010s under the moniker E+E before releasing work under her own name, Crampton has gained recognition for her innovative albums such as “American Drift” (2015) and “Elysia Crampton Presents: Demon City” (2016), which explore themes of identity, colonial history, indigenous resistance, and queer experience.
Her music is marked by a unique fusion of atmospheric soundscapes, altered samples, and narrative fragments, often referencing her own Aymara heritage and personal journey as a trans woman. Beyond her recorded output, Crampton has contributed to performances and installations internationally, collaborating with artists across disciplines to create immersive, boundary-pushing works that challenge traditional notions of genre and authorship. Her thought-provoking artistry continues to influence and expand the landscape of contemporary experimental music.
