DJ Lag, born Lwazi Asanda Gwala in Clermont, Durban, South Africa, is a pioneering DJ, producer, and global ambassador of the Gqom genre—a raw, minimal, and percussive dance sound that emerged from Durban’s townships in the early 2010s. Rising from the vibrant underground scene, DJ Lag quickly gained attention for his innovative productions and electrifying DJ sets, helping to introduce Gqom to international audiences. His relentless rhythms, thunderous bass, and stripped-back style have made him a mainstay on the world stage, with performances spanning prestigious festivals and clubs across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

Notably, he contributed to Beyoncé’s Grammy-nominated “The Lion King: The Gift” album, further cementing his influence beyond South Africa.
