Distance, born Greg Sanders in London, England, is widely regarded as one of the pioneering producers and DJs of the dubstep genre. Emerging in the early 2000s from the fertile London underground scene, Distance quickly made a name for himself with his heavy, metal-influenced basslines, dark atmospheres, and expertly crafted rhythms. His 2005 release “Nomad” on Hotflush Recordings and his work with labels such as Boka and Planet Mu helped cement his reputation as a forward-thinking producer unafraid to push sonic boundaries.
In 2006, Distance founded his own label, Chestplate Records, which became synonymous with the deeper and harder sounds of dubstep, launching the careers of several influential artists including Tunnidge, Cyrus, and Sleeper. His debut album, *My Demons*, released on Planet Mu in 2007, was critically acclaimed for its cinematic depth and aggressive sound design, establishing him as a key architect of dubstep’s evolution beyond its 2-step garage roots. Known for his electrifying DJ sets, Distance has performed globally, from underground clubs in London to international festivals, captivating audiences with a mixture of unreleased exclusives and foundational dubstep tracks.
Over the years, he has continued to innovate within bass music, collaborating with artists from grime, drum & bass, and metal, and inspiring a new generation of producers with his uncompromising vision. With a career spanning two decades, Distance remains a vital and influential figure in electronic music, consistently redefining the boundaries of bass-driven sound.
