Dauphin Åka is a multidisciplinary artist known for weaving elements of memory, folklore, and ecological transformation into immersive visual and sonic experiences. Born in Helsinki, Finland in 1988, Åka’s early exposure to the dramatic landscapes of the Nordic region profoundly influenced their fascination with patterns in nature and cycles of regeneration. After formal training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki, Åka relocated to Berlin, where their practice expanded to include experimental sound installations and community-centered performance art.
Working with salvaged materials, organic forms, and fragmented narratives, Åka’s installations evoke an emotional resonance, prompting audiences to reflect on the boundaries between the animate and inanimate. Their work has been exhibited widely across Europe and North America, including solo exhibitions at Kunsthalle Turku and the Museum der Dinge, and has earned critical recognition for its poetic interrogation of climate anxiety and cultural memory. Beyond the gallery, Åka often collaborates with ecologists, linguists, and local craftspeople, facilitating workshops and site-specific interventions that invite collective acts of listening and making.
