Chanel Carmichael

Chanel Carmichael is a contemporary visual artist whose multidisciplinary work explores themes of identity, memory, and transformation. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Carmichael grew up immersed in the vibrant cultural landscapes of her community, which continues to influence her dynamic approach to art-making. Her practice spans painting, mixed media, and installation, frequently incorporating found objects and personal artifacts to narrate deeply intimate stories.

After earning her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Carmichael began exhibiting her work in both solo and group exhibitions nationwide, garnering recognition for her evocative use of color and texture. Her work has been featured in galleries such as the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit and the Chicago Cultural Center, earning her several residencies and awards, including a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. She currently lives and works in Chicago, where she continues to develop projects that challenge and inspire.
