Bossy Boots is an experimental multimedia art collective founded in 2019 by partners Lena Martinez and Morgan Wu. Drawing inspiration from riot grrrl zines, surrealist cinema, and queer nightlife, the pair have developed a distinctive visual language that juxtaposes brash, playful iconography with incisive social commentary. Their work spans installation, performance, video, and interactive digital sculpture, frequently exploring themes of autonomy, gender, and collective empowerment.

Bossy Boots burst onto the scene with their immersive debut exhibition, “No Permission,” at DoubleTake Gallery in Los Angeles, where audiences participated in live, unscripted interventions. Since then, their projects have been presented at institutions such as The Broad and the Walker Art Center, as well as artist-run spaces from Berlin to Mexico City. Devoted to community engagement, Bossy Boots regularly hosts workshops and pop-up happenings aimed at demystifying the art-making process and celebrating creative self-assertion.

Their practice has been featured in ArtForum, Hyperallergic, and Dazed, earning them a reputation as bold, boundary-pushing voices in contemporary art.
