Batekoo

Batekoo is a multidisciplinary collective and movement founded in 2014 in Salvador, Brazil, by activists Maurício Sacramento and Meryll Abreu. Rooted in the celebration of Black and LGBTQIA+ identities, Batekoo has become a powerful force within Brazil’s cultural and artistic landscape. Renowned for its vibrant parties and DJ sets that champion Afro-Brazilian rhythms and global Black music, the collective fosters spaces of expression, resilience, and resistance for marginalized communities.

Beyond the dance floor, Batekoo’s impact extends to fashion, visual arts, and digital activism, engaging in socio-political projects that advocate for racial and gender equality. Their cross-disciplinary approach blurs boundaries between music, art, and community organizing, positioning Batekoo at the forefront of contemporary Afro-diasporic creative movements. Their work, characterized by inclusivity, empowerment, and bold aesthetics, continues to inspire new narratives and possibilities for representation in Brazil and beyond.
