2 Boots is an experimental visual and sound artist collaborative based out of Detroit, Michigan, founded in 2018 by lifelong friends Janelle Porter and Marcus Flynn. Drawing inspiration from the juxtaposition of urban decay and vibrant grassroots creativity, their dynamic work explores themes of memory, displacement, and transformation. Their practice blends analog photography, digital collage, found objects, and tactile installations with immersive audio landscapes, creating multi-sensory experiences that invite participants to question the boundaries between public and private space.
Over the past several years, 2 Boots has exhibited across the Midwest, received support from the Kresge Arts Foundation, and collaborated with community organizations to create pop-up interventions in forgotten environments. Rooted in a deep belief in the democratizing power of art, 2 Boots cultivates spaces for collective storytelling, honoring both the harsh realities and unexpected beauty embedded within the contemporary urban experience.
